No Money to Pay Rent – Zimbabwes Pensioners Closer to Destitution

Recently a lady of 75 years was referred to us by someone who was very concerned about her.

She has reached a crisis now where she has very little money and in a month’s time won’t be able to pay her rent and levy.

Over a year ago, she was retrenched from a company for which she had been doing admin work for 15 years. They had to dismiss her due to Zimbabwe’s failed economy but were fair and paid her a reduced monthly salary until now.

Now she is desperate and clueless as to how she will survive.

She was interesting to interview because, besides stating the sad facts, she did not complain and is not expecting charity from anyone.

She has made huge efforts to improve her life and be a supportive, helpful member of her community.

She has thought about moving into a bed-sit and is trying very hard to get a job.
